BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. Cargo transit through Iran’s northeastern Golestan Province rose by 19 percent in value and 24 percent in volume for the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), from the same period last year, Director General of Golestan Province Customs Office Shahriar Shahriari said, Trend reports.
The director general said that about 51,600 tons of goods worth $253 million were transited via the province in 11 months.
However, Shahriari did not specify the nature or destination of the transited goods.
The official also mentioned that the revenue of the provincial customs for the reporting period stood at around 5.14 trillion rials (about $122 million), showing an increase of 141 percent compared to the same period last year.
Golestan Province, Iran, is located on the border with Turkmenistan.
The latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that 16.1 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran for eleven months, representing a 35 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
