BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Türkiye is strengthening containerized freight transportation on several multimodal routes crossing through the Caspian Sea, Iran, and Asian countries, preferring them in terms of delivery time compared to ocean delivery, the representative of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Tatiana Rey-Bellet said, Trend reports.
"Transportation traffic of Turkish operator companies from Türkiye to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan during 2020–23 increased by 44 percent on these routes. Foreign operators working in the field of Turkish cargo delivery have seen an 86 percent increase in transportation during this period," Rey-Bellet informed the on IRU website.
According to her, transporting containers from Lianyungang, China, to Türkiye or EU countries through these corridors currently takes 13 to 23 days, while the sea route through the Suez Canal takes 35 to 45 days.
To note, an expanded Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route for 5 million tons of cargo per year will be put into operation at the end of April, which will positively affect the growth of cargo transportation from/to Türkiye towards Asia (via the Caspian Sea) and from China, Kazakhstan, and Central Asian countries.
