Special Rapporteur of the UN on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment Manfred Nowak is to make an official visit to Kazakhstan at the Government's invitation on May 5-14, 2009, Kazinform has learnt from the UNDP press service.
M. Nowak will hold a meeting with the representatives of the Government, national institutes for human rights protection, civil society and international organizations for gathering information. Besides, the UN Special Rapporteur plans to visit the places of executing punishment.
On May 13 after a briefing with the Government's officials the expert will hold a press conference to share the collected information with mass media. All data with the conclusions and recommendations will be reflected in a report of the UN Human Rights Council.
