Seven people are brought to justice for organizing riots in the city of Zhanaozen, Attorney General's Office spokesman Nurdaulet Suindikov said, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.
"About 36 active participants and 7 organizers of mass riots in Zhanaozen have been identified. About 29 of them were arrested, remaining 14 are under house arrest," Suindikov said.
Moreover, some representatives of Mangystau region Department of Foreign Affairs, former officials of the local executive bodies and some top managers of oil companies are brought to justice, Suindikov said.
Mass riots hit the Kazakh oil city of Zhanaozen in Mangystau region on Dec.16. According to the Kazakh General Attorney Office, 14 people were killed as a result and 64 injured by fire. Buildings and cars were burned and the property of individuals and institutions destroyed. A state of emergency was imposed in Zhanaozen from Dec.17 to Jan 30. The riots were preceded by many months of oil companies' employees striking over dissatisfaction with their wages.
