Speaker of Mazhilis of Kazakhstan's Parliament elected chairman of EurAsEC

The Speaker of the Mazhilis (lower chamber) of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin is elected the chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the EurAsEC (Eurasian Economic Community), Mazhilis stated in its report released on Friday.
"A meeting of the Bureau and a plenary meeting of the IPA of EurAsEC was held in St. Petersburg under the presidency of the speaker of Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin. The powers of Kazakhstan as the presiding member of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community were prolonged at the plenary session. The speaker of the Majilis Nurlan Nigmatulin was elected the chairman of the Assembly for the next two years," the report says.
According to the report, Kazakhstan has made a great contribution to the development of the organization, which was reflected in the increase of its authority.
"Considering this, the proposal on prolongment of the powers of Kazakhstan as the presiding member was supported by all the EurAsEC member states," the report said.
Eurasian integration should be based primarily on mutual economic interests, which requires the establishment of a strong legal basis, Nigmatulin said at the meeting.
"The role of inter-parliamentary institutions increases in the implementation of this task,, including that of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community, in this case working on the harmonization of the laws. And all this will allow us to focus joint efforts on the economic aspects of the integration," Nigmatulin said.
The participants of the meeting considered the issues of harmonization of the national legislations of EurAsEC member states in the spheres of economic and social policy, regulation of crossing national borders by individuals, as well as the agricultural policy, nature management and environment protection.
