The ministry of foreign affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 16 has sent a note to the ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan, the Kazakh foreign ministry said.

The note was sent after the Turkmen foreign ministry expressed protest in connection with the statement of the president of Kazakhstan regarding the incidents on the Turkmen-Afghan border during a joint briefing with the Russian president October 15 in Astana.

"Turkmen side expresses extreme concern and misunderstanding in relation with such a statement by Kazakh side about untrue situation at the state border of Turkmenistan," said the ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan.

The document of the Kazakh foreign ministry said that the comments mentioned by the leadership of Kazakhstan were made in the general context of sincere concern about the growing threat of terrorism in the world and the region.

It is no secret that the situation in Afghanistan, including the regions bordering the countries of Central Asia, has been recently characterized by increased tension and aggravating security problems, according to the note.

To some extent, this is also associated with the emergence and intensification of representatives of the so-called Islamic State terrorist organization in the country, said the note. The Kazakh foreign ministry went on to add it is convinced that only joint and coordinated efforts of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, both in bilateral and multilateral formats will make it possible to counter threats to their common security in an effective and timely manner.

The note expressed intention to further strengthen all-round cooperation within the framework and spirit of the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan signed in Ashgabat May 19, 1993 and providing cooperation to strengthen peace, maintain stability and security both in the regional and global dimensions.

The note also confirmed readiness to further continuous and open dialogue in the spirit of good-neighborliness and friendly relations.
