In 2018, gross grain harvest is expected to be 20 million tons in Kazakhstan, Kazakh media reported citing the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Sept. 18.

"Kazakhstan's gross grain harvest is projected at 20 million tons. The oilseed production is expected at 2.3 million tons," the report reads.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture, the expected volume makes it possible to increase the export potential of grain to nine million tons and oilseeds to one million tons, to provide raw materials for feed mills and oilseed processing plants.

According to provisional data of the regional agricultural departments, in 2018, grain crops will be harvested from the area of 15 million hectares, including wheat - 11.1 million hectares.

This is, respectively, 0.3 million hectares and 0.8 million hectares less than in 2017. Harvesting fields of oilseeds make up 2.8 million hectares, which exceeds the previous year's figure by 0.4 million hectares.

Kazakhstan harvested 22 million tons of grain in 2107.
