Trend:
Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas (KMG) state-owned oil and gas company plans to obtain the subsoil use right at the Kalamkas-Sea, Khazar and Auezov fields, Vice Minister of Kazakhstan Energy Zhumabay Karagaev said, Trend reports.
According to the information, the active phase of the construction of Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar fields was planned for 2021-2027. However, in 2019, NCOC (North Caspian Operating Company) abandoned the development of Kalamkas-sea.
Later, Shell refused the Khazar project in the Pearl field, which invested $900 million in offshore work, including geological exploration and seismic work, drilling of appraisal wells. BP also left the project.
Despite this, KMG is interested in continuing the development of the mentioned fields. In March 2021, LUKOIL confirmed its interest in the joint development of Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar, which in 2020 signed an agreement with KMG on offshore operations in the Al-Farabi area.
Currently, together with KMG, Eni (Abay and Isatay) and LUKOIL (Zhenis and Al-Farabi) are conducting geological exploration on the Kazakh shelf.
It is noted that investors' costs are reimbursed only if commercial oil production starts.
