No problems with electricity in Kazakhstan - PM

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 15

Trend:

There will be no problems with electricity in Kazakhstan, Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin said while answering questions during a meeting with journalists, Trend reports referring to a correspondent of Kazinform news agency.

Mamin stressed that energy has always been the most important sector of the Kazakh economy.

“We have recently had a surplus of electricity,” the Kazakh prime minister added. “That is, we produced more than we consumed. But the average consumption growth is 2-3 percent this year, and, in general.”

“We have observed an eight-percent increase in consumption this year,” Mamin added.

The Kazakh prime minister said that the development of the economy and digital projects of the digital economy had an impact. Therefore, there was a deficit in a certain period.

“I was at the Zhambyl Power Plant last week, our colleagues were working on Ekibastuz major opencut coal-mining center,” Mamin said. “We will repair and commission more than 2,000 MW.”

“There will be no problems with the provision of electricity in Kazakhstan,” Mamin said.

The prime minister added that all this will be ensured by its own production.

“The economy is developing,” Mamin said. “I have already named the number of projects and outlined our plans. It is necessary to further develop the energy sector.”

“For this purpose, we have drawn up an appropriate plan,” the prime minister said. “We must have over 15,000 MW of new capacities by 2030. This includes renewable energy, solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, and gas generation.”

“That is, in fact, we must double the volume of energy which will be generated during the next ten years,” the prime minister added. “This is a big task that we are working on now. I am sure that Kazakhstan's energy sector will always develop to meet needs.”

Mamin said that there are corresponding opportunities and the government is working to solve this task.
