A number of 16 large industrial enterprises will reduce emissions by 20 to 30 percent, Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources, Zulfukhar Zholdasov said, Trend reports via government press service.
“A total of 16 large industrial facilities in Kazakhstan's cities have taken obligations to reduce emissions from 20 to 30 percent within the framework of the Zhasyl Kazakhstan project,” Zulfukhar Zholdasov said at a briefing at the Central Communications Service (CCS).
According to the Ministry, enterprises have developed measures to reduce emissions, which will allow reaching emission standards in accordance with the national plan in 2022.
Enterprises allocated 167 billion tenge ($326.3 million) to solve environmental problems in 2021.
Kazakhmys Smelting LLP plans to reduce polluting substances through the implementation of environmental protection measures by enterprises.
The Balkhash copper smelter combines plans to build the second line of the sulfuric acid plant. This will reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 2.3 times, from 61,000 tons to 26,000 tons.
The Zhezkazgan copper smelter combine plans to launch the construction of a new sulfuric acid plant, reducing the standards for sulfur dioxide by 30 thousand tons per year (from 62015.9 tons per year to 32015.97 tons per year).
