BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 2. Two additional vegetable storage facilities are planned to be constructed in Kazakhstan’s Kostanay region, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

The facilities will have a total capacity of 10,000 tons and they will be equipped with climate control units.

The forecasted costs of the projects are expected to amount to 1.3 billion Kazakh tenge ($2.83 million). Successful implementation of the project will increase the storage capacity from 82,000 to 92,000 thousand tons.

Currently, 62 vegetable storage facilities are operational in Kostanay region. Only 15 are equipped with climate control units.

The construction of the storage facility is necessary, considering that it is planned to increase the production of socially significant food products for the population.

It is planned to sow buckwheat on 16,300 thousand hectares, potatoes - on 3,811 hectares, and vegetables on 1,058 hectares in 2023.

The issue of developing the agriculture sector is one of the key priorities for the Kazakh government. By assisting the development of agriculture, Kazakhstan aims to guarantee the food security of the country, in addition to curbing the impact of inflation on food prices.

Yesterday, Kazakh officials discussed the draft Concept for the development of the agro-industrial complex until 2030. The Concept was developed with the participation of government representatives, experts, and business leaders. The document is expected to serve as a strategy for combating global challenges and potentially harmful global trends, which may harm the Kazakh agriculture sector.
