BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. International Telecommunication Union (ITU) supports Kazakhstan in building its cybersecurity ecosystem through cyber drills, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, Cosmas Zavazava, told Trend.

According to him, the union is cooperating with the Government of Kazakhstan and other stakeholders on a wide variety of topics ranging from digital government to cybersecurity and school connectivity.

"We have helped the Government to assess its digital resilience and trained local experts to use mapping and connectivity planning tools. In partnership with Astana Hub and Kostanay Engineering and Economic University, we help to advance the startup ecosystem development in Kazakhstan and other CIS countries," he said.

Moreover, Zavazava also talked about the cooperation on cybersecurity with Kazakhstan's state institutions and other organizations engaged in telecommunications.

"A success story is our long-lasting cooperation on cybersecurity with the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, TSARKA and other stakeholders. ITU has helped Kazakhstan to identify gaps and address them to create a truly impressive, resilient, and participative cybersecurity ecosystem," the department director said.

Zavazava added that in 2022, Almaty hosted ITU inter-regional cyber drill for CIS and Arab regions with over 10 countries participating with their national cyber incident response teams (CIRTs). Moreover, within the school connectivity project, Giga ITU and UNICEF connected 38 schools of the Turkestan region to high-speed Internet.
