ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 18. Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas national company achieved record-breaking figures in oil processing and petroleum product output in 2022, Deputy Chairman of the Board of KMG Dmitry Makeev said at a press conference, Trend reports.
"The modernization of oil refineries by KMG, completed in 2018, enabled Kazakhstan to meet its obligations in producing Class K-4 motor fuels according to the requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union. By ensuring the production of higher environmental-class petroleum products, the harmful impact on the environment and the country's population has been reduced. Additionally, the production of high-value-added export products such as benzene and paraxylene has commenced," je said.
According to Makeev, the refinery modernization has allowed KMG to increase production volumes, tax payments, and improve environmental indicators,
Overall, in 2022, the volume of oil processing reached 17.8 million tons (compared to 14.2 million tons in 2015 and 15.4 million tons in 2018).
As he noted, the total tax payments for three enterprises - Atyrau Oil Refinery (ANPZ), Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant (PNHZ), and Shymkent Oil Refinery (PKOP) - amounted to 400 billion tenge ($900 million) in 2022, compared to below 100 billion tenge ($225 million) through the years of 2017-2019.
Due to the improved quality of petroleum products, the content of harmful carcinogenic substances in vehicle exhaust gases has significantly decreased: sulfur content in motor fuels decreased by 10 times, benzene content in gasoline decreased by 5 times, and aromatic hydrocarbons (a source of soot formation) decreased by 1.5 times, Makeev added.
