ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 3. Kazakhstan intends to export up to 11 billion cubic meters of gas per year to China, said Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev, Trend reports.
As he noted, gas supplies to China will be regulated every year.
The minister noted that Kazakhstan’s priority in gas supplies is primarily the domestic market
Kazakhstan exports gas mainly to China. In 2022, exports fell to 4.6 billion cubic meters - from 7.2 billion cubic meters a year earlier. At the end of last year, domestic consumption in the country amounted to 21 billion cubic meters, and by 2023, QazaqGaz (Kazakhstan's national company) expects it to grow to 40 billion cubic meters.
On October 5, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received Chairman of the Board of Directors of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Dai Houliang. Issues of gas export to China and the construction project of a new line of the Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent gas pipeline, as well as prospects for expanding the export of Kazakh oil to China, were discussed.
On October 6, QazaqGaz has signed a new gas export contract with China's PetroChina International for 2023–2026. As the company explained, the signed agreement will allow the companies to bring cooperation on the export of Kazakh gas to China to a new, effective level.
Gas production volume for 2022 in Kazakhstan amounted to 53.3 billion cubic meters, or 103.1 percent of the 2022 plan. Commercial gas production amounted to 27.8 billion cubic meters, or 94 percent of the plan.
Domestic consumption of commercial gas in Kazakhstan amounted to 19.3 billion cubic meters, or 107.2 percent of the 2022 plan; exports were 4.6 billion cubic meters, or 85.1 percent of the plan.
The volume of liquefied petroleum gas production (supplied to the domestic market) amounted to 2.8 million tons, or 98 percent of the plan.
In 2022, Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with China amounted to $24.1 billion, which is 34.1 percent more than a year earlier.
