ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 12. Construction of a container hub in Kazakhstan's Aktau port will begin in 2024, said Transport Minister Marat Karabayev during a government meeting, Trend reports.
In this regard, a corresponding agreement has already been signed with the port of Lianyungang (China). The feasibility study for the project will be ready in April 2024.
In addition, the construction of grain terminals was completed in the Kuryk port this year. Also, terminals for general cargo and transshipment of "green hydrogen" will be built at the port.
Moreover, it is planned to build 404 km of second tracks on the Beyneu-Mangystau, Zharyk-Sekseul and Shalkar-Kuryk railway sections to the seaports.
These measures are already included in the approved plan for modernization of the main railway network until 2030.
Additional routes to the Aktau port terminals will also be built.
Furthermore, Kazakhstan has two ports on the Caspian Sea: the port of Aktau and the port of Kuryk.
The total cargo turnover of the Aktau port amounted to 3.785 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 22 percent more than the same period in 2022 (3.109 million tons).
Based on the results of work for 10 months in 2023, the port of Kuryk processed 599 ferries. The volume of transshipment during the mentioned period amounted to 1.807 million tons.
Of these, 1.24 million tons are railway-related (16,450 railcars), and 566,000 tons (23,652 units) have to do with road transport (trucks and passenger vehicles).
