ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 1. The net profit of national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) amounted to 154 billion tenge (about $341 million) in 2023, which is four times more than in 2022, said Chairman of the Board of KTZ Nurlan Sauranbayev, Trend reports.
He made the remark during a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In addition to this, the company's revenue increased by 29.3 percent compared to 2022, amounting to 1.9 trillion tenge (about $4.2 billion).
Sauranbayev noted that in 2023, KTZ’s cargo turnover reached 270 billion ton-kilometers, which is 7 percent more than in 2022. The volume of transit transportation increased by 18 percent and exceeded 27 million tons.
Moreover, Nurlan Sauranbayev spoke about the implementation of large infrastructure projects, such as Dostyk - Moyynty, the construction of railway line bypassing the Almaty station and others: to date, more than 350 km of tracks has been laid. As he pointed out, the launch of these projects will increase the capacity of interstate connecting points.
It was also noted that the construction of a cargo terminal in the dry port of Xi'an, located in the largest logistics hub in China, has been completed. It will ensure stable cargo flow in the direction of Kazakhstan and open access to new markets for local exporters.
