ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 18. Kazakhstan is considering increasing trans-Caspian sea oil transportation, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
"Trans-Caspian sea oil transportation can be increased to seven million tons per year, which corresponds to the current capacity of the Aktau port," the Ministry said.
To ensure safe transportation, the Ministry estimates that
around ten additional tankers with a deadweight of 12,000 tons will
be required.
Meanwhile, the volume of Kazakh oil transported for export from the
port of Aktau reached 3.376 million tons from January through
December 2023, a 1.108 million ton increase over the same period in
2022.
Subsequently, the hike in the volume of Kazakh oil transported for
export from the port of Aktau is due to an increase in the volume
of raw materials shipped in the direction of the
Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, from 250,000 tons to 1.392
million tons, or 5.5 times more than the same period in 2022.
Specifically, the Tengiz field shipped 1.057 million tons of
oil.
In addition, in the reporting period, 1.984 million tons of oil were shipped from the port of Aktau towards the port of Makhachkala.
