ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 29. Kazakhstan's National Security Committee (KNSC) has prevented two terrorist attacks since the beginning of the year. KNSC Chairman Yermek Sagimbayev said during the meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports via Akorda.
“Since the beginning of the year, two terrorist attacks have been prevented, including one abroad together with foreign partners. Based on criminal cases investigated by the KNSC, 26 adherents of radical religious ideology were convicted for terrorist and extremist activities. Pre-trial investigations are continuing against 22 others,” Sagimbayev said.
According to him, 139 foreigners were prevented from entering the republic, and more than 280 foreign citizens were deported from Kazakhstan in connection with extremist views.
“Over 190 attempts at illegal importation of prohibited religious literature into the country were stopped, and 19 foreigners were brought to responsibility. 237 firearms, 27 explosive devices, more than 4,500 pieces of ammunition, and other means of terror were seized from illegal circulation,” the committee chairman said.
He also noted that more than 340 anti-terrorist drills have been organized since the beginning of the year.
“Within the framework of strengthening anti-terrorist protection measures, the Interior Ministry and KNSC forces conducted about 3,400 inspections of state and other facilities, including places of mass gathering of people,” Sagimbayev said.
