ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 3. Kazakhstan's electricity consumption is projected to reach 152.4 billion kWh by 2035, Trend reports.
According to forecasts from Kazakhstan’s energy ministry, the output from existing energy sources is expected to decline to less than 135 billion kWh due to various factors. The country will need to add new generating capacity totaling 26.5 GW over the next decade to address this shortfall.
The ministry reported that work is underway to address these needs, including 22 investment agreements for modernizing and expanding existing power plants with private investments.
Projects are also being implemented to build flexible gas power plants in the Ulytau, Kyzylorda, and Turkestan regions, as well as in Almaty, with a combined capacity of over 3,500 MW.
Additionally, efforts are being made to construct new combined heat and power plants. However, given the growth in the economy and population, these measures may not be sufficient to meet the anticipated future electricity deficit.
