BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. Cargo transportation by railway and air transport in Kyrgyzstan from January through April 2023 increased compared to the same period of 2022, Trend reports.
During the period under review, the railways of the country transported a total of 2.8 million tons of cargo, indicating a 15.5 percent increase compared to the 2.5 million tons transported in the same period of 2022, Kyrgyzstan's official statistical data indicates.
The volume of cargo turnover by the railway reached a volume of 361.6 million ton-kilometers (tkm) from January through April 2023, which is a 5-percent increase compared to the 344.4 million ton-kilometers recorded in the same period of 2022.
By air, the transportation of cargo amounted to 100 tons, decreasing by 50 percent compared to the 200 tons transported in the same period of 2022.
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo turnover via air transport reached 22.3 million ton-kilometers (tkm), indicating a four-fold increase compared to the 5.5 million ton-kilometers recorded in the same period of 2022.
At the same time, the transportation of goods by pipelines reached 156,500 tons, which is 15.3 percent less than 135,700 tons in the specified period of 2022.
Overall, the volume of cargo transportation in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 14.495 million tons from January to April 2023, increasing 12.4 percent year-on-year over 12.896 million tons in the same period of 2022.
