BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 19. Individuals from Russia transferred a total of $244.1 million to Kyrgyzstan through international money transfer systems in January 2024, Trend reports.
According to the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, this figure rose by $92.8 million, or 61.3 percent, compared to the same period last year.
During the period under review, the majority of the transfers to Kyrgyzstan originated from Russia. Overall, a total of $244.6 million came from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), out of which $200,000 was from Kazakhstan.
Transfers from non-CIS countries to Kyrgyzstan amounted to $14.5 million, with $5.2 million originating from the US.
In total, individuals sent a total of $259 million to Kyrgyzstan through international money transfer systems. This is an increase of $92.6 million, or 55.6 percent, compared to January 2023. Additionally, compared to December 2023, the figure experienced a slight increase of 0.08 percent, or $200,000.
By the end of last year, the total volume of money transfers to Kyrgyzstan reached $2.706 billion, which is a decrease of 12.3 percent, or $380.4 million, compared to 2022. The majority of these transfers were from CIS countries, totaling $2.550 billion, with Russia contributing $2.531 billion and Kazakhstan contributing $16.7 million.
