BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 27. It is planned to sow and cultivate oil crops on an area of ​​26,936 hectares in the community and dehkan farms of Tajikistan in 2023, which is 1,451 hectares more than last year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan said, Trend reports via Tajik media.

Oil crops in Tajikistan were sown on an area of ​​25,485 hectares in 2022, which is 1,331 hectares less than in 2021. Additionally, some 41,716 tons of the crops were produced last year.

Mainly, there are five oil crops cultivated in Tajikistan, including linseed, sunflower, sesame, groundnut, and safflower.

Earlier, on December 23, 2022, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon said that currently the needs of the country's consumer market were met by only 22 percent of domestically produced oil.

Rahmon instructed the responsible ministries and departments, as well as entrepreneurs and investors to restore oil production enterprises in the cities of Dushanbe, Bokhtar, and Kanibadam in 2023 by equipping the production with modern technologies.

Meanwhile, agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 49.3 billion somoni ($4.5 billion) in 2022, which is an increase of 8 percent compared to 2021.

At the same time, as Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda said in January, Tajikistan exported more than 191,000 tons of agricultural products in 2022.
