DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 17. A total of 2,800 hectares have been planted with peanuts in Tajikistan’s Matchinsky district of Sughd region, which is 80 hectares more than in the last year, Trend reports.
Currently, 90 percent of peanut production in the cities and districts of the Sughd district is centered in the Matchinsky district. The farmers in this district are the primary peanut producers in the country.
The average annual peanut production volume in the district ranges from 14,000 to 15,000 tons.
At the moment, the Matchinsky district hosts a peanut processing and packaging company called "Jafar", which has the capacity to process over 40 tons of peanuts per day and more than 10,000 tons per year. The plant was put into operation in June 2023.
As Chairman of the Sughd region, Rajabbay Ahmadzoda, said, agricultural products worth 4.201 billion somoni ($382 million) were produced in the region from January through June 2023. He pointed out that compared to the same period in the previous year, the production value has increased by 15 percent.
In May, the implementation of a five-year project began in Tajikistan aimed at accelerating development and growth in the agricultural sector. The project, with a budget of $19 million, is being carried out with the support of USAID (the United States Agency for International Development).
