At the State Security Council meeting held in Ashgabat yesterday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov stressed the need to intensify measures to prevent offenses and to ensure reliable protection of the state borders, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.
The meeting emphasized that Turkmenistan's military doctrine adopted in January 2009 was purely defensive in nature and was designed to provide all the necessary conditions for a peaceful, problem-free life for the Turkmen people.
President Berdimuhammadov also drew attention to the fact that security agencies should always focus on strengthening the material-technical base of subordinate bodies.
"Highlighting subordinate agencies' role in combating drug trafficking, the President stressed the need to further intensify efforts in this extremely important area of work," the report reads.
