Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree about creation of International Oil and Gas University on the basis of the State Oil and Gas University.
According to the decree, the creation of a new university is carried out in order to cardinally improve the training of highly qualified specialists for oil and gas industry. Foreign teachers and experts will be invited to teach at the new university.
Turkmen Ministry of Education was instructed to submit proposals about changes and additions to national legislation in a month.
Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the region for deliveries of natural gas in the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. The importers are Russia, China and Iran. At the same time, the country's leadership pursues a policy of diversification of economy. Oil and gas processing spheres have been developing in recent years.
In 2013 Turkmenistan set its strategic goal: to optimize its current opportunities in gas industry and approach to production of around 77 billion cubic meters of natural gas, about 44 billion of which will be exported.
According to BP report, Turkmenistan holds the forth place for natural gas reserves in the world after Russia, Iran and Qatar. The largest fields are concentrated in Mary province in the east of the country - Southern Yoloten - Osman field (was merged and renamed to Galkinish) and Yashlar field with shared resources, estimated by local geologists and British GCA company within 26.2 trillion cubic meters.
