Turkmenistan's capital of Ashgabat hosted a regional meeting of heads of the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Turkmen government said.
The president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Tadateru Konoe visited Ashgabat to take part in the event, according to the Turkmen government's message.
Konoe had a meeting at the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
"The meeting discussed strengthening of regional cooperation between the IFRC and Turkmenistan's Red Crescent Society within various projects, promoting constructive dialogue and developing joint decision-making, the ways and mechanisms of improving the activities," according to the message.
The multi-year partnership between Turkmenistan and the International Committee of the Red Cross includes joint programs and projects, the main goal of which is to spread and improve knowledge about the norms and principles of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), defined by the 1949 Geneva Convention.
Turkmenistan ratified the convention in 1992.
