By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

Turkmenistan will propose to consider the issue of holding the 'International Forum on Security and Cooperation in Central Asia' in Ashgabat in 2016 during the forthcoming 70th session of the UN General Assembly, the government said August 25.

"The forum aims at establishing a regular multilateral dialogue on the problems of the region, working out the common approaches to the creation of a permanent mechanism of political consultations in Central Asia in the future," the statement said. "The international non-military, non-block organizations, primarily, the UN and OSCE, could also take part in the forum."

It is also reported that Turkmenistan urges the international community to support the Afghan government, to promote the effective integration of this country into the regional and international economic processes, in particular in energy and transport.

Turkmenistan is convinced that the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan is possible only through peaceful, political means based on a broad national dialogue. Turkmenistan intends to continue to actively cooperate with the international community within the framework of the Istanbul process, especially in the promotion of such confidence-building measures as infrastructure projects and trade.

As a host country of the headquarters of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Turkmenistan stands for more active involvement of this structure in the various aspects of regional issues with the support of UN Member States, more focused and substantive interaction of UNRCCA with the OSCE, the European Union, the SCO, CIS and others.
