In the ranking of migration to Belarus, citizens of Turkmenistan have taken the second place after Russia, Trend reports referring to the business newspaper “Belarusians and the Market.”

The biggest number of migrants comes from Russia, according to the report. In 2018, 7,040 Russians moved to Belarus for permanent residence.

The residents of Turkmenistan ranked second. In 2018, 4,001 people moved from this country to Belarus. The major part of them accounts for the Turkmen students, who comprise the biggest group of foreign students in the country. Last year, 7,700 citizens of Turkmenistan studied at the Belarus universities.

As for the emigration rating, Russia also holds the first place. In 2018, 6,732 people left Belarus for Russia. Ukraine ranks second; 1,411 people from Belarus left for this country. Turkmenistan ranks third; 1,118 people moved there. Apparently, these are graduates of Belarusian universities, the report said.

The mutual trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Belarus amounted to $65 million in 2017, and to $32.2 million in 2018.

Belarus' supplies to Turkmenistan mainly consist of high value-added goods including trucks, special purpose vehicles, tractors, road-building equipment, medicines, woodworking products, and agricultural products.

An intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was signed in 2014.
