Turkmenistan to create border trade zones in partnership with ECO experts

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, November 14. Turkmenistan intends to create new border trade zones with the involvement of specialists from the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in this matter, Trend reports.

This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov at a government meeting.

These initiatives are aimed at implementing the initiatives put forward by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to intensify cross-border and regional trade during the 16th ECO Summit in Uzbekistan.

Meredov noted that, as part of the development of cooperation with the ECO member countries, Turkmenistan also plans to ratify the framework agreement of the ECO on transport and transit transportation and its protocol.

Furthermore, he added that in the 1st quarter of 2024, it is planned to hold a forum of the ECO on sustainable development in Arkadag city, as well as take steps to declare Mary city the tourist capital of the ECO in 2027.

The 16th ECO summit was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on November 9 this year, at which issues of developing cooperation in the transport sector between the participating countries were actively discussed.

The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional intergovernmental organization that brings together Asian and Middle Eastern countries to promote economic cooperation, trade and investment development, and to strengthen political and cultural ties among members.
