ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 15. A meeting of the national steering group for the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) was held in Turkmen capital Ashgabat, Trend reports via the project’s portal.
The meeting included national partners involved in implementing the program in Turkmenistan. Participants assessed the progress made during the project's third year and outlined plans for its concluding phase.
Since the launch of BOMCA 10, over 90 events have been conducted across four key areas, with participation from 847 representatives of Turkmenistan. As part of these activities, 45 documents have been developed and handed over to beneficiaries for further use.
Additionally, a grant project aimed at working with civil society organizations has been launched in two regions of Turkmenistan this year.
BOMCA, financed by the European Union, is the leading and largest program in the region. The current phase began in 2021 with a budget of €21.65 million and a duration of 54 months. Its goal is to enhance security and stability in Central Asia through improved border management, economic development, and cross-border cooperation.
Since the program's inception in 2003, its phases have focused on institutional development, combating drug trafficking, and supporting trade corridors in the region.
