Uzbekistan reveals data on external, internal debt

Uzbekistan's foreign debt grew by $1.7 billion in the first half of 2020, which is 10.9 percent more than the beginning of the year, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Finance.

This was stated in the report on the execution of the State Budget for the first half of 2020, which was read by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Finance Timur Ishmetov at the plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of Parliament of Uzbekistan (Oliy Majlis).

The total external debt of Uzbekistan is $17.3 billion. Additionally, as of July 1, 2020, the balance of loans raised on behalf of the state and under its guarantee amounted to $19.6 billion.

The internal debt of Uzbekistan has increased by $300 million since the beginning of the year and made up $2.3 billion.

Uzbekistan's total external debt for 2019 grew by almost $7.1 billion or 40.9 percent and reached $24.3 billion.

According to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, gold reserves of the country increased by 7.5 percent in July 2020, compared to July 2019, as well as gold sales - in 1H2020, the exports of gold accounted for 33.8 percent of Uzbekistan's total exports.
