The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has helped to develop procedures for accounting, reporting, and monitoring of water resources in Uzbekistan, Information Officer of US Embassy in Tashkent Susannah Wood told Trend, commenting on projects on providing efficient use of water resources in Uzbekistan.

She said USAID works to address water management challenges across Central Asia by helping cross-border communities to cooperate with their neighbors while helping governments to better manage shared water resources.

Wood noted that USAID’s work empowers communities to apply integrated water resources management principles and tools among various water stakeholders.

“Our regional work on transboundary water resources management has helped promote stability, economic prosperity, and healthy ecosystems in Central Asia and Afghanistan,” Wood said.

She added that through the new USAID Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment activity, the agency will strengthen regional capacity to manage shared water resources and mitigate environmental risks in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya river basins.

The US Agency for International Development is an independent agency of the US Federal Government that is primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance.
