Drip irrigation in Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan in the coming 2021 will occupy 41,400, which is 20 percent of the total drip wedge in Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to nuz.uz.
Of them, 27,6 00 hectares fall for cotton drip irrigation, 7,200 hectares – orchards, 7,400 hectares – vineyards.
As follows from the decree of the President of Uzbekistan "On measures to further accelerate the organization of the introduction of water-saving technologies in agriculture", the Jizzakh region will show an example of the introduction of drip irrigation in Uzbekistan.
The document defines the amount of subsidies allocated by the state for each drip hectare. Subsidies for growing cotton and grapes using drip irrigation amount to 8 million soums ($766,058), fruit crops - 6 million soums ($574,543), fodder, oilseeds, legumes and medicinal plants – 2.5 million soums ($239,393), vegetables and potatoes – 1.5 million soums ($143.636), melons and gourds – 1.3 million soums ($124,484).
According to official estimates, drip irrigation in Uzbekistan will occupy over 210,700 hectares in the country next year. Of these, cotton plantations will amount to 150,300, orchards – 29,600, vineyards – 15,600, other crops – over 5,000 hectares.
It was noted that a sharp increase in the efficiency of water use is required by the increasing water shortage in Uzbekistan and an increase in water consumption.
It is expected that the volume of subsidies for water conservation next year will reach 1.5 trillion soums ($144 million).
