Uzbekistan’s export of tomatoes significantly increases

The volume of tomatoes export from Uzbekistan in January 2021 in physical terms increased by 4,500 tons compared to the same period in 2020, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, Uzbekistan in January 2021 exported 7,400 tomatoes, while in 2020 this figure amounted to only 2,900 tons (2,100 tons in Jan. 2019).

At the same time, the export of this product from Uzbekistan in value terms accounted for $4.9 million.

In the structure of countries that exported Uzbek tomatoes, the largest volume in January 2021 fell on Russia, amounting to 3,600 tons, while Kazakhstan imported 2,900 tons of tomatoes.

In addition, 542 and 275 tons of Uzbek tomatoes were exported by Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, respectively.

It is reported that the volume of Ukraine’s export of Uzbek tomatoes in January 2021 was the smallest, amounting to only 700 tons.

Earlier it was reported that the Federal Service for Veterinary Surveillance and Phytosanitary Control in Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) allowed six Uzbek companies to import tomatoes to Russia starting from March 3, 2021.

It is noted that the import of tomatoes from the number of Uzbek regions was prohibited in 2020 due to the detection of the tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) in the products.
