Largest share of industry in Uzbekistan’s GDP accounts for metallurgy

The share of industry in the GDP (gross domestic product) of Uzbekistan in 2020 amounted to 28.5 percent, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, the share of manufacturing industry in the structure of value added in the industrial sector in the period under review increased to 76.5 percent against 69.6 percent in 2019 (72 percent in 2018).

It is reported that there was a decrease in the share of the mining industry and quarrying in the structure of value added in the industrial sector to 15.2 percent (in 2018 - 20.9 percent, in 2019 - 23 percent).

Thus, the largest share in the structure of the added value of the manufacturing industry at the end of 2020 fell on the metallurgical and metalworking industry (except for machinery and equipment), which reached 40.5 percent.

Earlier it was reported that the main factors behind the decline in the physical volume of industrial production in Uzbekistan in 2020 were its decrease in mining and quarrying enterprises by 0.2 percent and by 2.2 percent in the manufacturing industry.

According to the committee, in January 2021, enterprises of the country produced industrial products worth 26.8 trillion soums ($2.5 billion). It is noted that the index of the physical volume of industrial production by the same period in 2020 amounted to 98.8 percent.
