Uzbekistan and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have discussed a new project ‘Growth of the GRP (Gross regional product) of the Tashkent region, the main goal of which is to develop an economic strategy for the region, Trend reports citing Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan.
First Deputy Minister of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov met with a delegation from PwC at the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan in order to discuss cooperation on the development strategy of the Tashkent region and the order of possible areas of cooperation in the field of social security.
The parties discussed issues of environmental, social and corporate governance, increasing labor productivity, reducing unemployment and the shadow economy. A new project ‘Growth of the GRP of the Tashkent region’ was considered, the main goal of which is to develop an economic strategy for the region.
It is noted that the project includes such tasks as the integration of the regional economy into international value chains, the development of small and medium-sized businesses, ensuring the growth of employment and labor productivity, reducing the share of the ‘shadow economy’ and increasing tax revenues to the budget, attracting investment in the local and international markets (including public–private partnership), improvement of transport and transfer infrastructure.
During the meeting, the parties got acquainted with possible areas of cooperation in the field of social security and the procedure for their payment, as well as models of the main areas.
Following the meeting, the parties identified the prospects for socio-economic development and expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation.
