TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 11. Uzbekistan plans to introduce restrictions on electricity consumption for the population through household meters starting from November 1, Trend reports.

The automated system for monitoring and accounting of electric energy can set a power limit of 10-15 kW, reducing the electricity load in regions with worn-out equipment.

Uzbekistan’s Regional Electric Networks company notes that the precise power limit is contingent upon the minimum power requirements of the devices necessary to meet consumer needs within the specific region.

The company emphasized that it intends to implement power supply limitations when required in areas with outdated and overloaded power networks and transformer stations. Consequently, this approach ensures that consumers will not experience prolonged electricity outages.

"Restrictions will only be applied in a certain period in situations such as adverse weather conditions observed in the past winter and summer months in order to prevent excessive loads on the power grid," Regional Electric Networks representatives said.

Earlier this month, Uzbekistan revealed its plans to raise energy tariffs for major electricity consumers from November 1, 2023.

The tariff increase is said to apply to only 2 percent of the population, who use over 1,000 kWh of electricity per month.
