TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 11. Municipality of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent and Chinese BYD automobile concern have signed framework agreement on the supply of 2,000 electric buses, Trend reports.
The first batch of 200 buses is planned to be delivered in 2024. A 12meter-long BYD eBus K9UD, accommodating up to 90 passengers, is said to provide Tashkent’s transport system with a high level of safety and reliability.
Acting governor of Tashkent Shavkat Umurzakov noted that this agreement with BYD on the purchase of fully electric buses corresponds to the strategy of Uzbekistan's transition to green mobility.
“I believe that this agreement will contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens through the electrification of transport,” he said.
In September of 2023, BYD expressed its willingness to launch the assembly of hybrids and electric vehicles in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region, increasing the supply capacity up to 300,000 cars at subsequent stages.
During the negotiations, special attention was paid to the projects of localization of components and spare parts to reduce the cost of production, as well as the organization of export of cars to third country markets.
