Uzbekistan to expand regional pipeline system for better water access

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 18. Uzbekistan aims to provide 90 percent of Surkhandarya residents with drinking water via laying of 380 km of metal water pipes in 2024, Trend reports.

The news followed a meeting on the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, held in Termez under the chairmanship of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the project, 159 km of water pipes will be located along highways, and 221 km will be internal networks connecting cities and districts.

To date, 147 km of pipelines have already been laid, as well as water treatment, reduction and 5 drainage structures have been implemented in the region.

In addition, water was delivered to Saryasi, Denau, Shurchinsky and Kumkurgan districts of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, due to which the level of provision of centralized drinking water to the population of the region reached 70 percent.

At the second stage, which will be completed in 2024, the water supply indicator in the region will grow to 90 percent, which will be used by 2 million residents of Surkhandarya.

Meanwhile, during the Second Turkic Agro Business Forum in Baku, Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Aziz Voitov said that Uzbekistan is interested in attracting $50 billion of foreign investment in the agricultural sector of the country.

The minister noted that the textile industry, gardening, animal husbandry, seed production, and others are important and promising sectors in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan.
