TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 1. The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will allocate a soft loan of $260 million for 20 years, Trend reports.
This is reflected in the decree signed by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev "on measures to implement the Integrated Rural Development Project (2nd stage) with the participation of the Islamic Development Bank".
According to the decree, the overall project cost is $293.5
million. Uzbekistan's portion is worth $33.5 million.
In 2024-2028, the credit money will be used to build village
infrastructure in 21 districts in Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and
Kashkadarya.
The project will improve around 330 kilometers of road
infrastructure, with 717 billion soums ($56.8 million)
committed.
The country will build 20 schools (19 in Samarkand), 14 kindergartens, 10 family doctor's offices (all in Samarkand), 200 kilometers of drinking water networks, 368 kilometers of power grids, 53 transformers.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan and International Development Association will allocate funds for the restoration of forest landscapes in the country.
Uzbekistan will allocate $52.4 million for the project. The International Development Association will provide $142 million in loans for a period of 30 years, including a five-year grace period. In addition, the Progreen Trust Fund and the Korean KWPF Fund will provide grants worth $11 million. The total cost of the project is $205.4 million.
