IsDB, OPEC Fund to allocate funds for highway reconstruction project in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 3. The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development will allocate almost $154 million for highway reconstruction projects in Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

According to the Uzbek president's office, the project aims to reconstruct the section of the M39 Alma-Ata - Bishkek - Tashkent - Shakhrisabz - Termez international highway from 1255 to 1315 kilometers. The section of the highway passes through the center of Dehkanabad district.

Within the framework of the project, Uzbekistan will construct 60 kilometers of four-lane road with cement concrete pavement. The country will build a new 17-kilometer bypass road, 14 bridges, and road overpasses around the center of Dehkanabad district.

Meanwhile, the IsDB will allocate a soft loan of $260 million for 20 years to implement the Integrated Rural Development Project (2nd stage) in Uzbekistan.

The overall project cost is $293.5 million. Uzbekistan's portion is worth $33.5 million.

In 2024-2028, the credit money will be used to build village infrastructure in 21 districts in Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and Kashkadarya.
