TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 17. Uzbekistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have discussed the purchase of electric buses for Samarkand, Namangan, and Nukus, Trend reports.
The discussion took place during the meeting between Uzbekistan's Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhamov and EBRD Vice President for Banking Matteo Patroni.
During the meeting, the parties also reviewed prospective projects for 2024-2025, including the development of a tram network in Samarkand.
Patroni emphasized the important role of transport projects within the EBRD's portfolio and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in the railway sector.
Besides, the parties discussed the construction project for the toll road connecting Tashkent and Samarkand and agreed to expedite the work on the technical and economic justification.
To note, the EBRD has invested 4.9 billion euro in 164 projects in Uzbekistan.
The EBRD, as the leading investor in the country, has been cooperating with the country since April 1992. The bank aims to improve the investment climate in the country, ensure media freedom, promote women's entrepreneurship, and support the 'green' transition in Uzbekistan.
