TEHRAN (MEHR - Trend )

The second phase of Shahroud Cement Factory's development plan was inaugurated on Wednesday, raising its daily output to 6,000 tons from the previous figure of 2,700 tons.

Industries and Mines Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and some high-ranking provincial officials attended the inaugural ceremony, IRNA reported.

"Iran has reached self-sufficiency in cement production and currently produces more than domestic needs," Mehrabian said on the sidelines of the opening ceremony.

The minister also expressed hope that the nation's cement production volume will hit 110 million tons in 2013.

The country's cement production capacity in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2009) touched 64 million tons.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is now self-sufficient not only in cement production, but also in the construction of cement factories.
