Iran can play a significant role in solving Middle East and international crisis, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chief of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said here Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

"Iran is able to play an important role in regional and international issues," Boroujerdi was quoted by semi-official Farsnews agency as saying.

Referring to Iran's proposal package addressing the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely France, Britain, Russia, China and the United States, plus Germany (G5+1),he said that "we believe the issues between Iran and the G5+1 comprise a wide range (of issues) a number of which include the needs of Western countries."

In the press conference on Monday, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad invited representatives of G5+1 to Tehran to receive Iran's updated package of proposals, according to local Mahr news agency.

Earlier in September, Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili said that Tehran has prepared revised package considering last years global developments and it is a basis for the nuclear talks.

In response to West's packages of incentives to encourage Iran to halt its sensitive nuclear program, Iran offered its own package to G5+1 last year, in which Tehran's concern had been directed to the global issues rather than its nuclear program.

The European Union on Friday urged Iran to return to negotiations and not seek confrontations over its nuclear program.

The United States and other Western countries claim that Iran intends to secretly develop nuclear weapons. The UN Security Council also requires Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activity.

Iran, however, insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes, vowing to continue its uranium enrichment activity despite pressure and sanctions from Western countries.
