Iran to produce powerful anti-aircraft system
Iran will produce powerful anti-aircraft systems in the near future, Iranian Deputy Commander for Staff Operations on Air Attack Protection Hatamul-Anbiya Hishmatullah Kasiri was quoted as saying by the Irna news agency today.
"The power of these complexes will be equal to Russia's S300 anti-aircraft system and perhaps even surpass it," he added.
Iran has made new advancements in manufacturing anti-aircraft systems, Kasari said, adding that in the future these advances will be developed.
Russia and Iran signed an agreement worth $1 billion to transfer S300 anti-missile systems two years ago. Concerned about the agreement and Iran's nuclear program, the U.S. and Israel demanded that Moscow abandon plans to sell the system to Tehran. According to Russian media, Moscow opted against selling the systems to Tehran.
