Quake hits Iran’s North Khorasan Province (UPDATE)

An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale took place near Raz city of Iran's North Khorasan Province at 21:56 last night , Trend quoted IRNA News Agency.

No dead, injured and damage have been reported yet.

Earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale took place in the Iranian province of Khorasan - Rezavi near Turbati-Haidari. More than 170 people were injured.

Earthquakes often take place in Iran. The most powerful earthquake occurred in December 2003 in the city of Bam, located in the south-east province of Kirman. The earthquake claimed the lives of 31,000 people. The ancient fortress, built of clay, was destroyed.

According to IRNA news agency, the quake damaged houses in tens of villages in the Bojnurd, Mane and Semulgan cities of the North Khorasan Province. "The earthquake damaged over 50 houses in the Raz and Jargilan settlements and 100-150 houses in the Eshgabad, Kelate, Chinar, Agmiraz, Pishgala and Gazabad villages" Mahmud Rivada, Raz settlement's municipality head said.

He added that now International Red Cross Society provides the people with aid. He said there is no report about dead, injured.
