Chinese FM Assistant: Iran, important trade partner of China

Assistant Foreign Minister of China Zhai Jun termed Iran here Thursday as the important trade partner of his country, IRNA reported.

China is trying to promote economic, energy and political relations with Iran, said the official in a meeting with Foreign Minister of Iran Ali-Akbar Salehi in Bali.

The meeting was held here on the sidelines of the ongoing 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which started on May 25.

The Chinese official also voiced Bejing's readiness to increase the level of its trade cooperation with Tehran which is currently estimated at 30 billion dollars.

Referring to the recent developments and conflicts in North Africa and the Middle East regioin, Zhai Jun said they were resulted from double-standard policies.

The Chinese official also referred to Iran as a great and independent country which played a major role in the region.

For his part, Iran's Salehi said Tehran could be a reliable trade partner for Beijing.

The 16th Ministerial Meeting of NAM kicked off in Bali on Wednesday.
