Iran is currently exporting 800 megawatts of electricity to Iraq per year and will raise the exports to 1,250 megawatts by the next summer, Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou said-MNA reports.
Namjou made the remarks during his meeting with Iraq's Electricity Minister Raad Shallal Saeed in Tehran on Monday.
"The Iraqi side has confirmed necessity to construct the Khorramshahr-Abuflous line, expected to be completed in summer, 2012, through sending a technical team and the settling of the suspended problems, in order to increase Iran's electric power for Iraq to 1,250 megawatts," the minster added.
According to the report, Iraq's Electricity Minister, for his part said Tehran-Baghdad relations in the electricity field is at best level now and efforts are aimed at connecting the two countries' electricity networks within the next three years' time.
Raad Shallal Saeed added, "After the implementation of the agreement and the connection of the two countries' electricity networks a sold network would emerge and Iran's electricity would be exported through it to Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon, and this solid network would be controlled from a single central center."
He added, "In accordance with the reached agreements, the programs would be implemented in separate phases and in each phase the program related to the next phase would be put forth for agreement."
The Iraqi Electricity Minster said, "These programs would be devised in a way to have tangible and implementable objectives."
