Iran has launched the Middle East's first gas reservoir plan in Sarahjeh, Pananews reported quoting deputy oil minister Javad Oji as saying.
Injection of gas into Sarahjeh's reservoir, the largest in the Middle East, commenced last month.
"Daily gas injection here is forecasted to reach 3.5 million cubic meters during the first phase of this project," Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Javad Oji said.
Oji underscored that the gas injection rate is predicted to increase to 20 million cubic meters per day after launching all phases of the South Pars.
The South Pars gas field is shared by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share, which is divided into 29 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight percent of the total world reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.
Iran has the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia. Iran eyes to double gas production to 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per day.
