After a recent Russian delegation's visit, Iran and Russia have announced they will cooperate more closely on issues related to the Caspian Sea.
Igor Bratchikov, Russia's chief negotiator on Caspian Sea affairs met with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Mehdi Akhondzadeh to review the status of negotiations among the Caspian Sea's littoral states, Shana news agency reports.
Quicker implementation of past agreements and starting the preliminary work on the littoral states' next meeting in Russia were also reviewed.
Russia continues to oppose dividing the Caspian Sea among the countries that border it. Mr. Bratchikov criticised attempts to build a pipeline on the Caspian Sea bed calling it interference and against the legal rules governing the Caspian.
